In the very first part of the book, the reader gets presented into the story. George Orwell discusses the world; the people in Oceania are living in. A world full of security and spying, a world ruled by one Celebration and its head, Huge Sibling. Posters of his face and with the Party’s slogans are everywhere.

Oceania is a desolate place what is brought on by the war it is in.The reader is familiar with the lead character Winston Smith and acquire insight his everyday life. He is operating at the Ministry of Fact, among 4 ministries. The others are the Ministry of Love, the Ministry of Peace and the Ministry of Plenty.Winston is very discontent with his life and the whole political system. Although he is monitored all the time he begins composing a diary in a corner of his space, where the camera of the telescreen can not reach him. Composing a diary is not forbidden however it would make Winston suspect, thus numerous things do.

He learns more about a girl who becomes part of the “Junior Anti-Sex League” who flashes him glace. In the beginning he thought she belongs to the Thought Cops and that she would believe him. He met her at the “Two minutes of hate”– a daily propaganda broadcast and he likewise seeO’Brien -a member of the Inner Party- for the first time. Winston makes sure, that he and O’Brien are on the same wavelength and that he is against the Party too.He likewise frequently dreams about his youth and past days. He informs her about the space with no telescreen, the store owner revealed him and Julia consents to rent this space for meeting there.One time, when Julia and Winston are satisfying each other he informs her about O’Brien which he believes he is a rebel too. Julia gets curious therefore they are checking out O’Brien. Because he is a member of the Inner Party he has some opportunities. He can shut off his telescreen for a little while what makes them possible to talk freely.

O’Brien displays Winston and Julia that he belongs to the brotherhood a secret organisation against Huge Bro. He threat Winston to open the cages door and after that finally Winston gives up and asked for grace. He groans that they need to torture Julia instead of him and so O’Brien stopped.After he secures free he satisfied Julia for one last time. They admit themselves that the Party was able to damage their sensation for each other.So in the end the Party handled to brainwash Winston in such a way that they obey the system and the Celebration.
