10/23/11 1984 important analysis In the unique 1984 by George Orwell a male named Winston lives within a dis-utopian society. People within this society keep their emotions non-noticeable due to the fact that if they go against what the inner circle is teaching than that person would work by hand labor for the rest of their life. In the story a celebration referred to as the inner circle uses a few mottos and phrases to manage whatever.
The inner circle utilizes all that they state to brainwash people into believing what they are saying holds true.
The inner party’s slogans are “War is peace, Flexibility is Slavery, and Ignorance is strength” By utilizing these expressions one can see that the inner circle can control everybody into believing in what the inner circle tells them to think in. The very first slogan “War is peace” The inner circle has this motto to convince people that there is no such thing as peace. The inner party seems to get individuals to believe they are in a consistent state of war. When they are not battling one country they are fighting the other.
The inner celebration utilizes this consistent state to their benefit; the inner party utilizes this state to keep individuals constantly occupy with a war and to keep them from thinking of rising against the government. Examples of the consistent state of war, one is the proles are continuously being bombed. With this slogan it gives people a sense of anxiety keeping them frightened and to make them believe that Huge Bro is taking care of them and will look out for them, and protect them. The second slogan “Freedom is Slavery”, the inner celebration is attempting to control everybody and getting them to dislike every other nation.
This slogan indicates that to have liberty is to be a slave, which in American eyes is a big lie. The inner celebration puts out the slogan for people to comprehend it is much better to be under Big Bro than it is to be your own individual and have freedom to decide what they want to do; But to the people in this dis-utopia society believe that Huge Brother is for them and not just that but they have been spoon fed their entire lives and they would not know what to do even if they had liberty.
Individuals in this society that would have some sense of what freedom is, is the proles because the inner circle doesn’t actually appreciate them. The third motto is “Ignorance is strength”. The Significance of Lack of knowledge is the absence of Understanding, Not knowing and for not knowing to be strength it does not make very much sense. The expression “Understanding is half the battle” would never enter play. Oftentimes to win a battle is to know what the army is up versus. Not knowing is how the inner circle keeps any rebels from rebelling due to the fact that they do not understand what they are up against.
Throughout the book the inner circle is kept a secret but it is understood that it exists. In the book Winston believes that Big Brother is not real and does not exist. The inner circle also retells history the method they desire it informed and they teach it by doing this to keep individuals from knowing what genuinely is taking place on the planet around them. After all the mottos among the phrases the inner circle utilizes is “Huge Brother is Viewing You” This society uses this poster to contribute to the anxiety and fear of individuals.
The indication has this stating and above it is a face that looks comparable to Hitler. This poster is posted everywhere within the society. This stating echoes throughout ones mind to provide a sense of being constantly watched and they need to focus on whatever they do. This saying is not entirely incorrect either in this society individuals are always keeping an eye out at people waiting and looking for them to mistake. The inner circle also utilizes telescreeens within each space to monitor what the individual is doing and likewise the telescreen has no off switch.
Winston has his telescreen in a place so he has a corner where he can compose what ever he desires in his unlawful journal. The inner circle uses it’s own individuals to for it’s eyes in the society since it utilizes the true followers to capture all individuals who would break. The inner circle also utilize kids as spies. They utilize the kids to spy on the moms and dads within the house to make sure they do not go against the inner celebration. The inner circle turns their own individuals on each other so not only they look to catch each other but they also have no big groups to conspire with.
In Comparison of the three mottos the primary thing they all share is they are all false and are all contradictions of each other; “War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Lack of knowledge is strength.” Each slogan has it’s own purpose and reason to assist the inner circle to manage everyone to make sure they do not rise up versus the inner celebration. If somebody does break the inner party the inner celebration sends their “job force” in to take that individual and to have them do manually labor for the rest of their life. Which having the Idea Authorities a. k. “job force” in the mix of whatever adds even more stress and anxiety and fear into the people of this society. In truth the inner circle utilizes fear and repeats the slogans to get people brainwashed into believing everything the inner circle is telling them. The inner circle uses all of the phrases to control and manage everybody to be on their side. The inner celebration has these mottos to ensure everybody can’t go against them. The inner celebration guidelines with worry and is kept a secret, and repeats everything to make certain it is persuaded into believing everything they are told.
In many cases if somebody repeats something over and over they would think it to be real. If someone duplicated that 2 + 2 = 5 eventually they would start to question if it holds true and after that soon the individual would think it holds true and technique themselves that they are best in which 2 + 2 = 5. Which is the same method with Winston in which eventually he offered into the methods of the inner circle and he started to like Big Bro who he abhored at the start of the book. This very same procedure controlled Winston into going into the ways and is persuaded into believing whatever he is informed.
