Betrayal in the Crucible
In The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, a group of teen women went to go dance in the forest with Tituba, slave of one of the well known reverends in their town, Reverend Parris. Coincidentally Revered Parris stumbled through the woods and identified them. For acting in an outlandish way or simply put dancing they were all accused of being witches. Abigail without a thought betrays Tituba by telling Reverend Hale that Tituba “conspires with the devil”. The style of betrayal is at the heart of this story and is proven though the actors of much of the main characters.
When faced with difficulty or misfortune peoples real colors and their real character begins to reveal. For instance, the first thing Abigail did after she got in trouble was to try to blame someone else for her faults. Abigail-“”She made me do it. She made Betty do it! Tituba- “Abby” Abigail- “She makes me drink blood” (pg. 40)”. This quote is a best example of betrayal. During this part of the play Revered Hale and Parris begin implicating the girls of witchcraft due to the way they were dancing around the forest, and acting in a “barbaric” way.
So Abigail blamed Tituba for conspiring with the devil despite the fact that all she was doing was trying to assist the girls. Betrayal can occur to anybody, they can even be the closest buddies on the planet and end up switching on each other in the end. Abby-“please don’t injure me” Mary “I’m not hurting her. She sees absolutely nothing” (107 ). In this quote Marry Warren is being implicated to conspiring with the devil by Abigail. Abigail declares to be getting assaulted by Mary warrens spirit.
The only reason Abigail is behaving in this manor is due to the fact that John proctor convinced her to go to court and affirm against Abigail. To believe they utilized to be pals up until Abigail betrayed her by lying about being assaulted by her. Its incredible how one lie can stimulate the betrayal of so many people. Manipulative individuals can not only betray individuals they intend but often they can indirectly harm individuals they enjoy. John Proctor “Abby I might consider you softly from time to time however I will cut off my hand prior to ill ever grab you again.

Abigail is not only experienced at lying and deceiving however she can likewise make the man she likes betray another female. Betrayal, a word use to portray treachery or aiding the enemy, was exceptionally widespread throughout this story.
The saddest thing is betrayal reaches out to all primary characters in the story, and in some way everyone is affected by another individuals lies much like in reality. For example Abigail informing a betraying Tituba triggered their whole society to break into widespread panic to expunge the existence of the devil from the residents of Salem which also result in the incorrect allegations and death of a great deal of innocent individuals. This is a perfect example that betrayal can impact everybody and anybody.
