Schedule Summary– Brave New World
Even though Brave New World is unclear, disturbing, and has a really miserable end, it has constantly struck me how a work of literature written for the past eight years is amazingly accurate and prophetic. It is remarkable how even a story written in 1931, in which the author thinks of a future society of individuals who love big scale manufacturing, in which the people in that society consider the words “mother”, “family”, “father”, and even “pregnant” corrupting and a “revolting, dirty word”, lead lives of unforbidden sex, and using medications or drugs to dispose of the negative feelings, such as depression, bitterness, or guiltiness. It anticipates the future with amazing accuracy of the downfall of the household through regenerative innovations, the obsession of “engaging” with the other sex and with as much individual without ever feeling the regret and considering it as an ethical carrying out in the society and is much encouraged, making use of social media and institutes to “brainwash” everyone or child to what is the right or incorrect and what to do and not to do, making use of technology to enormously replicate “people” and even clone them without the need of human recreation.
The story surprisingly uses no resolution to the “inhumane best society”, it is not even improved neither altered. The primary character have not even persuaded the society’s culture or norms to alter. It has an unpleasant and lonely ending, which is likewise most of the endings resemble that just like Christ. I see this story, as an eye-opener and rather a wakeup require the Christians at present which is immersed in the “mass-producing” and “highly advance” societies with concerns growing bigger and are accepted by people more, to do what the author did not do and what the story’s resolution is missing: telling the message of the real fulfillment, happiness and liberty that can just be discovered in Christ our Hero. This is not to sound all religious and holy, I am just as wicked as everybody else, but my point is, the core of all of this improvement in innovation and mass-production is to satisfy all our wants and needs and to satisfy something that is missing inside us to the point that we fascinated ourselves with these material things just to discover that we have actually ruined ourselves in the long run with these things and yet that hole inside us is still in vacuum and still looking for that something. We worked so hard to be able to buy the things that we want, the important things that we thought could make us delighted, like having all the devices and products this society might provide, taking part in sex with the thought that this would bring satisfaction, only to discover that it did not and can not in any way, so we search for more and “engage” more believing that possibly the other one will be much better and would be able to please us but in the end it did not, which result to us feeling the regret of immorality. We do not like to feel guilty of what we have actually done therefore we made up “rational reasons” and made up explanations that it is not unethical and wrong, that it is much better for us, which is even motivated for the truth that it is for our pleasure and we deserve one. We opt for riskier things and consume whatever it is as long as it would make us feel much better. To be able to discard all the tensions by using up medication and drugs to the point of overdosing ourselves with these to feel that incorrect sense of satisfaction and flexibility.
I am so impressed, after understanding the things the movie portrays, this film is a mirror to our society today, like actually. All of the issues dealt with in the film are quite similar to what we are experiencing. We have even concerned a point that we now abhor those that differ this idea and considers this behaviors as immoral and wrong. The “Savage” in the movie, Brave New World, just break and condemns the society, but we might do so a lot more here in reality; we can offer and share to others the genuine happiness, hope and flexibility that comes just from our faith in God. By accepting Christ as our personal Savior, who is the only way, reality and life; that would provide us eternal fulfillment that uses far more than the momentary satisfaction that our society offers. This film, for me, is a very good instrument and motivation to advance the message of the gospel and to reveal the corruptness of our society simply to attain happiness and the much better method to obtain the true happiness through the real method.
