The three documents are congruent with one another in their terms and conditions, and the rights that they protect. The primary importance of the Human Rights Act is that it allows for human rights cases to be heard by the British Courts without the plaintiff being compelled to take their case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg. That said, the act does allow for recourse to the ECHR if a plaintiff is dissatisfied with the outcome of their case in the British Courts. The congruency and compatibility of the various declarations, conventions, and acts do not mean that they are devoid of internal contradictions or complications.

Initially, the sections of the Human Rights Act that deal with personal privacy and the right of the public to be informed and the freedom of the media to satisfy that concern (a.k.a., freedom of expression) will be outlined and analysed. The body of the discussion will focus on cases and case law that relate to this balancing act. Finally, a concluding section will offer overall insights into the balance between privacy and freedom of expression under the Human Rights Act.There shall be no interference by a public authority with the exercise of this right except such as is in accordance with the law and is necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security, public safety or the economic well-being of the country, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.

The privacy of the individual is guaranteed with respect to their private life, their family life, their home and their correspondence.
