The Car Rental Application helps a user within the company undertake several tasks and works as a basic application that allows the user to enter sales figures and retrieve suitable analyses. the working of the application shall be presented sequentially. the Car Rental application is windows based and works with the help of an Access database that serves as the backend. The user is prevented from accessing the data directly by the requirement to log in with the appropriate credentials upon opening the application.

Upon successful authentication, the user is presented with a screen that allows him to perform three basic operations. These three operations can be accessed from the top-level menu shown in the screenshot below.

The first option allows the user to enter the details of a rental by selecting the appropriate rental type, the place of issuing the rental, the date and duration of the rental period as also the name of the customer. With this, the details can be registered in the system.

The user can use the second option to obtain a grid-based view of the total sales of the system that are shown grouped according to the rental type.

Also, the users can get an estimate of the sales achieved by each rental outlet for the preceding 7 days on a segment as well as on an overall basis by selecting the appropriate outlet from the drop-down list.

The application can further be enhanced by developing it across several perspectives. Firstly, several aspects of the operations of the company can be included in the system as separate modules. For instance, the cost of operation, maintenance of cars, the inventory, spare parts used, the wages paid out to workers in the company, etc. can be managed by the system. as the capabilities of the system grow, it is advisable to transfer the database from an Access application to a highly capable SQL Server or any other database server as this allows for more features apart from improving the overall performance and quality of the system. the application can be migrated to the web, to allow the customer to be able to log in and make online bookings. Such a feature will eliminate the need to maintain several offices and further relieve the need to enter every sale made as the system could then be configured to handle the sale and purchase features automatically. As such, these are some of the areas where the application can be enhanced further.
