Case assignment Step Information gathering Circumstances Health care is a fundamental aspect of the society that affects the life of every citizen in a nation. The article entitled Faith Healers therefore addresses essential health care issues by investigating the effects that a change in the health care system may have in the operation of health care facilities especially in a society that is as cosmopolitan as Washington is. The secular state has appropriate secular laws that govern the operation of every institution including health facilities. The adoption of secular laws in the state has consequently permitted health facilities to execute client’s commands some being as outrageous as abortion and physician assisted suicide. Such developments portray the liberal nature of the society since the laws permit the populace to take care of their lives and make important decisions that concern their lives. Such include abortions and suicide. However, the situation is likely to change thereby presenting a conflict in the management of the health facilities in the state. Apparently, the Roman Catholic has inherited the health care system in the country with the promise of revamping the operation of the health facilities with an increased cash flow in the state. The health care system under the management of the Roman Catholic will curtail the liberal nature of the facilities as the Catholic safeguards the value of human life. Such a conflict is likely to heighten owing to the fact that Washington is one of the secular states in the country. Imposing religious heath care system is therefore likely to conflict with the wishes of millions of citizens who will not enjoy some of the liberties that the previous health care system offered. The introduction of the new health care system promises an improved quality of the health care services that the facilities will offer owing to increased financial capital that the Roman Catholic will provide the system. The health care sector is one of the most expensive systems in any country owing to the high cost of the health equipment. Additionally, clients often demand guaranteed quality of medical services a feature that increases the need to purchase high quality and efficient equipment. Such requirements increase the cost of managing and maintaining high quality health care services in the society. Under the new health care management system, the health care practitioners will have to appreciate high ethical standards by adopting the doctrines of the Catholic Church under the stewardship of a council of bishops who will oversee the operation of health facilities in the country. The catholic doctrines value humanity a feature that will command the practitioners to value human life and therefore not to engage in any activity that will curtail the life of a patient. This implies that the clients will not enjoy the liberty to either abort a pregnancy or choose suicide for varied reasons. While the laws do not ban such services from the health services, the high ethical standards set by the council of bishops will prevent the health care practitioners from undertaking such operations. The situation therefore creates a dilemma for the public that is likely to recur on a daily basis. Step 2: Creative problem solving The eminent overhaul of the health care system in Washington presents fundamental concern to the citizens of Washington. Firstly, Washington a secular state with most people in the state maintains liberal views on various features of the society. This therefore creates the basic conflict as the Roman Catholic takes over the management of the health care system in the state. As explained earlier, Roman Catholics value human life and will therefore ban such secular operations as physician aided suicides and abortions among many other operations that are likely to jeopardize human life. Such provisions will affect the quality of life for the people of Washington who will no longer enjoy the liberal structures in the society. Additionally, as an elite society the people of Washington continue to demand for higher quality health care services. Such services are expensive as explained earlier; the previous health care system could not afford thereby necessitating the tradeoff. This creates a dilemma for the citizens of Washington who will therefore have to choose for either the liberal social structure over poor quality health care services in the country. The need for high quality health care services is vital for the people as the society seeks to progress. Furthermore, social progress in the state perpetuates the appreciation of s secular and liberal structure, one that permits the populace to choose their life structures. The need for high quality health care is likely to subdue other cultural values that the society of Washington upholds. Liberty is vital for the growth of a society as the society manifests in its different facets. However, as part of its visions, the authorities of the state opted to let the Roman Catholic run the health care system in the state owing to the fact that the church promises increased quality of health care services. The new management adopts a passive regulatory frame works that will not interfere with the laws in the county but will not foster some of the laws that the people had previously enjoyed. As expected, the Roman Catholic values human life and will therefore institute stringent policies and ethical principles to guide the operation of the health care practitioners. Adherence to the ethical principles will prevent health practitioners from engaging in activities that endanger the lives of patients, which will include abortions, and pharmacist assisted suicides that the people of Washington had previously enjoyed. Step 3: Listing pros and cons Scenario Pros Cons Permitting the Roman Catholic to take over the management of health care in the state Increased quality Reduced cost of health care Sustained quality and efficiency Curtailing the liberties Not permitting the church Liberal society Low quality health care services Step 4: Factual assumptions The takeover of the health care system in the state by the Roman Catholic is eminent. The process will present numerous ramifications key among which is the limitation of some of the freedoms that the citizens had previously enjoyed. As a secular state, the people of Washington had made fundamental achievements in developing a liberal secular society in which an individual makes all the vital decisions that affect their lives. An individual for example should enjoy the freedom to determine when to terminate his or her life. As controversial as the claim sounds, the state of Washington had developed such a structure in which an individual could walk into a hospital and request the practitioner to shut his or her heart thereby killing the client. The new health care management system promises improved quality of health care services in the state but as expected the improved quality will affect various liberties the people had previously enjoyed. The adoption of the new health care management system relies on the assumption that the situation will adopt the new ethical standards introduced by the Roman Catholic that will limit some of the fundamental liberties the people had previously enjoyed. Step 5: Justification The fundamental decision relies on the need and value that each option will present. As discussed earlier, health care is a basic need in societies and the elite Washington society continues to demand higher quality health care services from the authorities. The explanation portrays that the importance of the populace is on the quality of the health care service that the people will obtain from the health care facilities thereby increasing the quality of life in the society. The priority of needs will therefore compel the people to conform to the new operational principles as introduced by the Roman Catholic. Furthermore, the Roman Catholic does not try to change the laws; the people will enjoy their liberal society with the laws permitting such features as abortions and suicide. However, the ethical standards of operation will confine the health care practitioners to particular standardized procedures that will seek to safeguard the quality of human life.
